      "message": "x86: Replace NOP with CPUID after WRMSR(TSCDEADLINE) to serialize deadline timer\n\nFix apic and vmexit test cases to pass with APIC timer virtualization by\nreplacing the NOP instruction with the CPUID instruction, a serializing\ninstruction.  Use CPUID instead of the SERIALIZE instruction for simplicity\nbecause SERIALIZE is not universally available, but CPUID is (on CPUs that\nKVM-Unit-Tests realistically supports).\n\nThe apic and vmexit tests use a WRMSR+NOP sequence to cause the deadline\ntimer to fire immediately at the NOP instruction.  Per the SDM[1], WRMSR\nisn\u0027t a serializing instruction when writing TSCDEADLINE, which results in\nfalse failures when APIC timer virtualization is enabled (in the host), as\nthe NOP can be retired before the timer is armed.  The test currently\npasses because APIC timer virtualization isn\u0027t yet supported by KVM (in\nwhich case the WRMSR is intercepted and thus is *heavily* serializing), and\npresumably because the test isn\u0027t often run on bare metal.\n\n[1] From SDM 3a Serializing intructions\n  An execution of WRMSR to any non-serializing MSR is not\n  serializing.       "message": "x86/vmx: Write to KVM\u0027s WALL_CLOCK MSR via VM-Entry load list sync in SIPI test\n\nIn the VMX Wait-for-SIPI \u003d\u003e SIPI VM-Exit test, signal that the AP has\nentered the guest by writing to MSR_KVM_WALL_CLOCK_NEW (when supported)\nvia the VM-Entry MSR load list instead of writing to memory from the AP\n_before_ actually doing VM-Enter.  Abusing the MSR load list ensures that\nthe AP\u0027s \"ready\" signal to the BSP happens atomically with respect to\nVM-Enter, and thus fixes a race where the BSP can see \"ready\" and send the\nSIPI before the AP has executed VM-Enter.
