<p>This intrinsic routine is provided for backwards compatibility with
GNU Fortran 77. For integer arguments, programmers should consider
the use of the <a href="IAND.html#IAND">IAND</a> intrinsic defined by the Fortran standard.

smaller kind type is implicitly converted to larger kind, and the
